What’s Your Favorite and Least Favorite School Lunch? ~ CASH

School is back in session. I picked my son up from school today and of course, I asked, “How was school today, son?” “Good!”, he replied. That’s it, one word to sum up the entire day. The kid is only 8-years-old so it takes some digging to find out what went on during his first day in a new school in a new state.

I then proceeded to ask him what he ate for lunch. You know what he told me, pasta with meatballs and a breadstick. A breadstick! Are you kidding me? We were all fired up whenever we got those bomb rolls. This kid is getting breadsticks for lunch.

Now that I”m almost 20 years out of school, I would do anything for a nice meal like that on a daily basis. What happened to all the cafeterias? I used to roll up to this place called Luby’s all the time and go crazy in the buffet line. Ah, the good old days!

I then started to think of the weird concoctions that I had while eating school lunch during my more formidable years. Of course, we had our favorites, chicken nuggets, Frito pie, steak fingers (you can’t even find steak fingers anymore. they used to sell them at dairy queen, but not anymore), tacos were always smack, and when we were really lucky, enchiladas! You must remember, I grew up in the southwest, the enchiladas served in school are better than most restaurants serve around the country.

Some of my least favorites were, sloppy joe’s, the school made pizza, the school made grilled cheese, that one time they made chili dogs using spaghetti sauce, I’ll never forget that. The list can go on and on.

So I ask you, what are you favorite and least favorite cafeteria foods? Have a great school year!
