On September 13, Miranda Lambert will release her highly anticipated album Postcards from Texas, marking a new chapter in her music career. The country superstar recently sat down with US Weekly to talk about the album, her whirlwind romance with husband Brendan McLoughlin, and finding the balance between her career and personal life.
In the interview, Lambert shared her thoughts on how she’s grown over the years, saying, “It takes a while to figure out the balance of actually living your life so you have something to write about and constantly being on the grind. And I think I finally found that balance pretty good.”
Lambert, who married McLoughlin, a former NYPD officer, in 2019 after just three months of dating, opened up about her relationship. Living together on a 400-acre farm outside of Nashville, the couple has built a life filled with love, animals, and creativity. Lambert credits much of her newfound stability and happiness to McLoughlin, saying, “He’s such a great friend and really supportive, but he does his own thing.”
As for the music, Postcards from Texas is Lambert’s first album under a new deal with Republic Records and is self-produced. She recorded the album in her home state of Texas, capturing the honky-tonk, heartfelt sounds that brought her to fame. To finally make another record in Texas with my best friend, Jon Randall, and it just has this honky-tonk home sound to me. That’s the way I grew up. It’s the music that got me started. So it feels full circle.,” she explains.
Interestingly, McLoughlin even contributed to the album, co-writing the song “Dammit Randy” with Lambert and her longtime collaborator Jon Randall. “He had some of my favorite lines in the song,” Lambert said proudly. “It’s his first cut ever on an album, and he’s super excited about it.”
Reflecting on their relationship, Lambert spoke about the importance of communication and compromise. “Love doesn’t always cut it. You’ve got to talk about stuff, and you have to compromise sometimes and be willing to listen to each other.” She added that McLoughlin challenges her in ways she hadn’t experienced before, helping her stay grounded and true to herself.
Despite their whirlwind romance, Lambert said she knew McLoughlin was the one and didn’t hesitate to take the leap. “No risk, no reward,” she said. “If you don’t put your heart out there, are you ever going to get the big love that everybody wants?… I just felt like the worst that could happen, I’ve lived through. If it ends, it ends.”
As Lambert continues to embrace this new chapter in her personal life, she’s bringing that sense of balance and clarity into her music as well. Postcards from Texas reflects not only her growth as an artist but also as a person. “This record is about me coming home, literally and figuratively. It’s about reconnecting with where I came from and embracing everything that’s shaped me, from my roots in Texas to my life with Brendan now.”
