Alan Jackson Delivers Unforgettable Performance Of ‘Chattahoochee’ at ‘Opry 100’

Longtime Grand Ole Opry Member, Alan Jackson, returned to the iconic stage on Wednesday evening to deliver a performance of his fan-favorite hit, “Chattahoochee,” during NBC’s Opry 100: A Live Celebration.

The Georgia native had the Grand Ole Opry House on its feet, clapping and singing along throughout the entire performance. Artists like Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill looked on, witnessing a rare public appearance from the country music icon.

As the famous Grand Ole Opry barn backdrop transformed into a river scene reminiscent of the classic  “Chattahoochee” music video, Jackson sang, “Down by the river on a Friday night/ Pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight/ Talking ’bout cars and dreaming ’bout women/ Never had a plan, just livin’ for the minute/ Yeah, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee/ Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me/ But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was/ A lot about livin’ and a little ’bout love.”

“Chattahoochee” was written by Jackson alongside Jim McBride and released in 1993. It was the third single from his A Lot about Livin’ (and a Little ’bout Love) album and went on to become one of his most popular and most successful songs. It was awarded the titles of Single of the Year and Song of the Year at the CMA Awards.

Country Music Hall of Fame member Alan Jackson made his debut on the Grand Ole Opry stage on March 3, 1990. He officially became a member the following year, on June 7, 1991.

Though he still performs to this day, Jackson’s touring schedule has significantly been cut back due to his ongoing battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a genetic condition that causes nerve damage and impacts Jackson’s ability to walk and keep his balance.

Jackson’s LAST CALL: ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD tour is set to wrap up on May 17 in Milwaukee, WI.
