Good heavens is right. @WalkerBMusic made the first golden ticket a no-brainer – especially with that @lionelrichie cover. #TheNextIdol #AmericanIdol @AmericanIdol

Watch his soulful cover of Vince Gill’s “Whenever You Come Around”
Another contestant, Johanna Jones, had a potato chip eating contest with the judges before earning her Golden Ticket.
I don’t think this is how you do it but I’m always down for a challenge. #JohannaJones #TheNextIdol #AmericanIdol @AmericanIdol pic.twitter.com/jdAdcZCC1E

The most touching audition of the night was the last one. Contestant Nick Townsend gave an emotional performance of “Let it Go” by James Bay. He shared the story of losing his brothers to suicide.
The judges were moved by his singing and sent him through to Hollywood.
#NickTownsend, I know your brothers are very proud of you. Way to keep following your dreams. @AmericanIdol #AmericanIdol #TheNextIdol

Not everyone made it through and for Luke it’s hard to say no sometimes
