Garth Brooks Takes Himself Out of the Running For CMA Entertainer Of The Year {WATCH}

Garth Brooks held an online press conference this morning (July 29) to announce he is permanently taking himself out of the running for COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) Entertainer of the Year.

Garth said he originally approached the CMA about creating an “Entertainer of the Year emeritus” position.  “Emeritus” is defined as having retired but allowed to retain their title as an honor.

When the CMA replied it couldn’t control who its members nominate, Garth took his request directly to the industry, saying, “With all the gratitude and love in the world we humbly ask” not to be considered in the second round of voting, which opens on FRIDAY, JULY 31st. “We are going to pull ourselves out,” he said, adding, “It’s time for somebody else” to experience the win.

Garth has won the prestigious award seven times.

The move came partly as a result of some social media backlash to his win over Carrie Underwood last year.

Garth has entertained fans throughout 2020 with his weekly “Studio G” livestreams on Facebook, he hosted a Drive-In Concert  announced his own Words with Garth gaming app and gave fans a live TV Special on CBS.
