Is a Pot Of Beans Really Considered a Meal? ~ CASH {Pic}

Let’s settle this today. Is a pot of beans considered a meal?

Before you guys start calling me a monster, I appreciate my wife very much cooking a pot of beans for the family on Sunday. Here’s the deal, my wife has an old soul or something…She yearns for some of the home-cooked meals she had as a little girl, as do I. But one thing that I have found to be interesting, is that there’s a big difference between growing up in the south and growing up in the southwest.

I always think it’s interesting when I tell folks that I grew up with a single mother who struggled. I mean, we weren’t eating out of trash cans or anything, but we did spend a lot of time at my grandparents, and on several of those Sundays at my grandma and granddads house, I would ask my grandma what we’re having for dinner and she would look at me and say, “Pot O’Beans on the counter.” No!!! Then she would make some cornbread and it things would be ok. Then for dessert, I would watch my grandparents put some of that cornbread in a cup and pour a bunch of milk on it. Boom, dessert!

My wife had been talking about it for a while and I knew it was bound to happen sooner than later. Sunday was the day. Beans and ham hocks. Listen, it’s not terrible, I eat it every time she makes it. I think she gets mad at me because I’m not as excited as she is. I mean, it’s really funny. Then, she gets upset when I put a little dab of A-1 sauce on the beans. What?!?!

I think it’s a psychological thing for me. Growing up, when Grandma would tell me we were having beans, it really struck a chord with me and it’s something that I still haven’t been able to get over. At least I eat them now. 30 years ago, I would’ve gone to bed without dinner and on Sundays, dinner was eaten at like, at 2 pm. That’s a long time to go until breakfast. Beans it is.
