Kelsea Ballerini made a surprise appearance on The Voice this week. Kelly Clarkson wasn’t feeling well and joined the Battle Rounds from home so Kelsea took her empty chair.

Kelsea wrote on Instagram, “When Kelly Clarkson calls and asks you to keep her seat warm, you put all those years of being her superfan to work.”

According to Newsweek, The Voice pre-recorded its Battle Rounds to fit in with Kelly’s syndicated talk show schedule. The current season of The Voice began filming in October 2020, meaning that Clarkson’s illness likely occurred late last year.
