Hampton Roads City Named One of the Worst For Staycations In 2021

WalletHub conducted a study to discover the best and worst cities for a staycation. To determine the best places for “a fun-filled yet wallet-friendly staycation,” WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 46 key metrics, including parks per capita, restaurant-meal costs, and the number of residents who are vaccinated.

According to the study, Honolulu, Hawaii is the best city for a staycation, and Chesapeake, Va is one of the worst!

Ok- so let’s first all agree that if you live in any city in Hawaii, you never have to go anywhere.  No brainer.

But…we would have to politely disagree that Chesapeake is one of the worst.  With over 22 miles of waterways, including canals and rivers, Chesapeake is perfect for a summer staycation.  You can explore the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge or boat watch at Great Bridge Lock Park.

For history lovers, you can visit the Virginia Civil War Trails, a series of Civil War battle sites with some that served as part of the Underground Railroad. You can also explore the Chesapeake African American Heritage Trail where you will discover stories of people and places that helped shape our nations.

Chesapeake residents can find vaccine opportunities near you by visiting Vaccinate.Virginia.gov. Find the latest on how to access City services at CityofChesapeake.net/COVID19

And if that’s not enough, you can hop over to another city in the 757 and still be at home on your staycation.
