Maddie of Maddie & Tae Gives Teary, Wine-Drunk Acceptance Speech At The CMT Awards

Maddie and Tae took home the CMT Award for Group/Duo Video of the Year last night for their song, “Woman You Got”.

One half of the duo, Maddie Font, was in attendance to accept the award as fellow member Taylor Kerr recently brought her daughter home from the NICU.

Back in December 2021, Taylor was rushed to the hospital where she was placed on bed rest and ended up giving birth to her first child, a daughter named Leighton, three months early.

Since then, the duo’s career has been on pause and when Maddie got up to accept the award, the emotions poured out of her.

“Let me tell y’all something ’bout the Devil — he’s trying to get you when you’re doing right,” she began. “But God loves you. God loooooves you.”

When she realized Tae was on the big screen behind her holding her newborn baby, Maddie broke down.

“Oh, I miss you. I miss you so much, I can’t do this without you,” she said through tears. “That’s my girl. And I’ve been drinking because I’m so nervous. Tae, I miss you so bad.”

“Tae, I miss you so bad,” she said again. “Tell that baby girl I love her. I want to thank our fans. But most importantly, the resilience that God has built in us and our team, the clarity he has given us, the strength he gives us. The vision God gives us, and the peace he brings. This is much bigger than a music video award to us… I’m crying, I’ve been drinking wine, God knows me. Thank you Jesus and CMT, I’m so grateful.”

Later CMT caught Maddie backstage on the phone asking Taylor “Is it ok if I just come to your house and we get drunk?” before asking her friend and duo partner if she had already pumped. “She already pumped we’re ready to party”
