Brett Eldredge on His Strict Limits on Social Media: “I’m Not Gonna Let It Run My life.”

Brett Eldredge felt like he was spending too much time promoting his brand on social media.  So now he severely limits his phone usage, and his time spent on all platforms.

Brett took a social media break, only using a flip phone for a full year in 2019. “I recommend it to everybody,” he told PEOPLE at the time. “I know it’s a commitment, but I was the guy that was on [my phone] all the time. But I think I got to the point that I wanted to connect at such a deeper level, and I thought, it’s gonna take a lot of self-awareness to do this. And that’s what I’ve done, and I feel really so much better.”

In a new interview with Billboard he talked about how artists today are expected to promote themselves on social media.

It’s a task that’s never-ending so he needed to create boundaries.  “I lock myself out.  I can’t look at my phone until nine o’clock in the morning, and I can’t be on it after 8:30 P.M.  It locks me out,” he shared.

“And I only have social media for an hour and a half on all platforms.  So if I want to use those platforms to tell my story, I have to be mindful of how I use it.”

He says the discipline is good for his own mental health. “I don’t want to wake up in the morning and the first thing I think about is what TikTok trend I need to be part of.  That’s the life I don’t really wanna go after. I know every artist is feeling this now.  I’ll still do some of it, but I’m not gonna let it run my life.”

Brett just released his new album, Songs About You, and he’s out on the road with the Songs About You tour.
