A Florida man with a heart of gold has gone viral after footage of him saving a stranded cat from Hurricane Ian’s floodwaters went viral.
Mike Ross saved a cat from atop an air conditioning unit on Wednesday as Bonita Springs was flooding.
The very wet, very scared orange-and-white kitty seems to be in good condition.
His girlfriend shared a video of the rescue on social media saying, “My boyfriend saving a cat from flood waters near Bonita Beach.”

Bless your boyfriend! That poor scared cat! So many poor animals get left behind and no one considers their lives are also in danger! Please stay safe! Your boyfriend and the kitty both look like keepers!!

Ross told The Washington Post that the rescued cat will stay with them until its owner is found. His girlfriend shared an update on Twitter along with a link to a GoFundMe page to raise money to restore their home and others’ houses that were damaged in the storm. She said half of the proceeds would go toward the Humane Society Naples in honor of Ian the kitty to help other animals impacted by the crisis.
We are starting a gofundme to help restore our home and others’ homes that were damaged by #HurricaneIan. We are donating half of the proceeds to the Humane Society Naples in honor of our miracle cat, Ian.
