Will My House Flood? Interactive Map Shows Hour-By-Hour Storm Surge

Hampton Roads will face additional moderate to major tidal flooding over the next few tide cycles as the remnants of Hurricane Ian move through.

Residents worried that they may be at risk for flooding can now use the Virginia Institute of Marine Science’s Tidewatch Map to find out how high the water is expected to rise in their location.

According to the website, the display is updated twice daily and will show either 6am to 6pm the following day OR 6pm to 6am the day after tomorrow. You can “click” through the display using the arrows on the right end of the slide bar at the bottom of the map, or automate the display by clicking on the arrow on the left of the slide bar.

The map combines expected storm surges with tidal tracking and elevation maps to project flooding in Virginia’s tidal zone.
