Chesapeake Humane Society’s Crisis Boarding Program Offers Assistance to Domestic Violence Victims and Their Pets

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Chesapeake Humane Society has partnered with local Domestic Violence Associations to provide assistance to those experiencing domestic violence.

CHS’s crisis boarding program supports people experiencing domestic violence by providing temporary boarding and care for their pets while survivors receive the help they need.

Want to help? Fostering for the Crisis Boarding program is a great way to help animals and the people who love them stay together. Pets in the Crisis Boarding program on average have a longer stay than pets in our Adoption Program. For a pet who is used to living in a home, shelter life can be very stressful. In order to reduce stress and keep pets comfortable while waiting to be reunited with their families, Chesapeake Humane Society places many of their Crisis Boarding pets in foster homes.  Learn more here.
