I took a staycation last week, but with so much to do in Hampton Roads, I didn’t stay put! #1 on my list of fun adventures for the week was taking a shelter dog on a field trip.
First up, I took one of my favorite long-term residents at Norfolk Animal Care Center on a NACC Pack Adventure. Melusi has been at NACC since March and is a staff and volunteer favorite! We went for a walk, to Starbucks for a pup cup (she immediately recognized it and started wagging her tail in the drive-thru!), and then to the pet store for her to pick out her own toy.
She’s an energetic but easygoing girl who would love a chance to be part of someone’s family. Click here to get to know her.
After letting Melusi pick her own toy, we decided to take it one step further. For our next outing, we decided to let the shelter dog choose their whole field trip! So we popped over to Virginia Beach Animal Services to meet Champagne.
She is a sweet but shy husky mix who needs a calm, loving home where she can gain confidence. Once she starts to feel comfortable, you can see her opening up! For her adventure, she chose to go to the newly reopened Red Wing Park to play in the dog park.
Next up, we went to Pups and Pints where she got to play in their pools and choose a lunchtime treat…she picked the grilled burger and a “Woofle”. The staff were kind enough to throw in a free pup cup, too.
Champagne has heartworm disease (spread by mosquitoes to dogs) and is currently being treated. This is covered 100% by the shelter! Her adoption is also just $1 at Virginia Beach Animal Services. Click here to get to know her and go meet her in person today!
