Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs have teamed up for their first-ever collaboration, “Backup Plan.” The artists stirred up a buzz online when they offered a teaser of the new track across social media last week. Then during his star-powered set at Stagecoach, Combs invited Zimmerman to debut the track live for the lucky fans in attendance.
Penned by Jimi Bell, Jon Sherwood, and Tucker Beathard, “Backup Plan,” serves as a gritty anthem for dreamers and underdogs. Zimmerman leads the first verse and chorus with power and raw emotion in his vocals that instantly grabs the listeners attention.
He taps into his won’t-back-down attitude while depicting the highs and lows of chasing something bigger than yourself. Especially when the odds feel stacked against you, Zimmerman sends the encouraging message to “Tune out the doubters and all the closed-minders” and keep pushing forward while remaining your authentic self.

Combs brings the same drive and grit, with his signature vocals carrying the weight of hard-earned wisdom gained from chasing his own dreams.
He sings, “Well life’s got a lotta sticks ‘n stones/ And a blade that’ll cut you to the bone/ But if you’re doing what you love and it kills you/ Well, you can live with that all day long.”
The pair trade off delivering the rest of the rowdy anthem that turns self-doubt into fuel with its fiery, hard-hitting beat.
“So if you got a fire don’t lose it/ If you got a do or die dream do it/ If you got something to prove go on ‘n prove it/ Don’t let nobody clip your wings/ Keep your head down, keep on the blinders/ Tune out the doubters and all the closed-minders/ If it’s in your blood, falling down ain’t enough/ To change who you were born to be/ And gettin’ back up, that’s the only backup plan you need,” they sing on the chorus.
The song packs a punch with raw grit and a powerful dose of heart and encouragement. It’s the kind of song that will have you getting back up, dusting of your boots and remembering you why you started the journey in the first place.
Zimmerman expressed numerous times across social media that getting to collaborate with a superstar like the North Carolina native is a “dream come true.”

“I can’t believe I’m about to put this song out with Luke Combs,” he wrote.
The “Holy Smokes” singer is currently preparing to hit the road for his 2025 New To Country Tour, during which he’s set to headline some of the biggest venues of his career so far. Multiple stops sold out within minutes of the on-sale.
The trek will launch in Indianapolis on June 6 and conclude on September 13 in Laughlin, NV. Zimmerman will be joined on the 16-stop amphitheater run by Dylan Marlowe and Drew Baldridge.
