Lainey Wilson is brushing off her acting skills for a brand-new on-screen opportunity. Announced Wednesday (April 30) by Variety, the hitmaking country star is set to make her feature film acting debut in Universal Picture’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestseller “Reminders of Him.”
While her role hasn’t been revealed just yet, we do know that Wilson will appear alongside Maika Monroe, who leads a cast that also includes Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, Lauren Graham, Nicholas Duvernay, and Bradley Whitford.
The movie, which will premiere in theaters just ahead of Valentine’s Day on Feb. 13, 2026, follows the story of the Kenna Rowan (played by Maika Monroe), who’s just returned to her hometown after spending five years in prison for a heartbreaking mistake. With this new chapter, she hopes to reconnect with her young daughter, who is being raised by her late boyfriend’s parents, however she finds that nearly everyone in town is set on keeping them apart.

The female character trudges through judgment and rejection from those around her before finding that the only person willing to give her a chance is Ledger Ward (Tyriq Withers), a local bar owner who ends up playing a big role in her life. Additionally, Rudy Pankow takes on the role of Scotty Landry, Kenna’s first love and the father of her late daughter.
The “Reminders of Him” novel was published in 2022, has sold more than 6.5 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 45 languages. After a heated bidding war, Universal secured the film rights and is set to release the movie, described as a “transformative feature film about motherhood, forgiveness and the power of one love to heal even the most shattered heart.”

Vanessa Caswill has been tapped to serve as the director of “Reminders of Him,” with the screenplay written by Hoover and Lauren Levine. Both of these writers are also producing the film through their production company, Heartbones Entertainment alongside Gina Matthews through her Little Engine Productions. Additionally, Robin Fisichella is executive producing, while Director of production development Christine Sun will oversee the project for the studio.
This won’t be the first time Wilson has worked with Universal, nor will it be her first time acting. In 2024, the Grammy winner released her original song “Out of Oklahoma” to the Universal Pictures film, “Twisters,” which was nominated multiple award nominations, including from the Guild of Music Supervisors and the Society of Composers and Lyricists. The full soundtrack hit No. 1 on the Billboard country charts and was also nominated for a Grammy.
Wilson first stepped onto a set and tried her hand at acting on Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, where she played the reoccurring role of Abby, a musician, who first appeared in Season 5. Sheridan created the role specifically for Wilson after the western drama series started featuring her music in Season 2.
Now, Lainey Wilson will bring her talent to “Reminders of Him,” proving her versatility in both music and acting.
