Jordan Davis Opens Up About Collaborating With Carly Pearce And Marcus King On New Album, ‘Learn The Hard Way’ [Exclusive]

Jordan Davis has unveiled the track list for his 17-song album, Learn The Hard Way, arriving August 15. This news reveals that among the string of unreleased tunes and already fan-favorites are two stand-out collaborations – “Mess With Missing You” with Carly Pearce and “Louisiana Stick” with Marcus King.

While reflecting on the stories that shape this project during his recent appearance at Live in the Vineyard Goes Country, Davis told Country Now just how meaningful these collaborations are to him.

He shared that recording a song with Pearce is something he’s been trying to do “for a long time” as he considers her to be one of his “oldest friends” in Nashville. He ended up writing the song with the “Hummingbird” singer, who is also his ACM Honors co-host, in mind and it quickly became one of his favorite tracks on the whole project.

“I’d always talk to her about wanting to do something,” he shared. “Obviously it’s tough to not do a song with a female and it not be some kind of love song, but yeah, this is a breakup song,” Davis explained. “I wanted it to be something that was a true collab. So it’s not just I sing a verse and she sings a verse and I think in the studio, we crushed it. Hillary Lindsey’s a writer on it, who’s one of my favorite writers in town, and the lyric is awesome. So I’m excited. I think it’s going to be a big one.”

The Louisiana native is equally as “stoked” for everyone to hear his recording with renowned singer, songwriter and guitarist, Marcus King.

He explained that the song, “Louisiana Stick” was inspired by his nickname “Stick” in high school due to his tall and skinny physique. The story that has been in his back pocket for some time finally came to fruition and the addition of King’s vocals made it that much better.

“I’d had that idea forever and then finally ended up writing it and then having Marcus come on, it really kind of just made it what it is,” he pointed out.

On the third slide of Davis’ recent Instagram post announcing the track list, he also revealed that he was “shooting a bunch of stuff” for the new project.

He confidently stated, “It’s probably gonna be the best record ever made.”

While Davis has built his career on relatable lyrics and catchy melodies, Learn The Hard Way promises to dig even deeper into his real-life stories of love, heartbreak and lessons learned the hard way, as the title suggests. The project follows his 2023 album, Bluebird Days, and continues to showcase his evolution as both a songwriter and storyteller.
