Virginia Zoo Announces Departure of Malayan Tiger Brothers
April 25, 2022
Get ready to say goodbye to Malayan tigers Stubbley and Osceola.
The Virginia Zoo announced that the six-year-old brothers will be leaving the Zoo as part of the AZA’s Species Survival Plan.
According to a press release, the Species Survival Plan “aims to maximize the genetic diversity of the species, creating a healthy and sustainable population for the future. The SSP® also ensures the species’ survival in the wild through supporting conservation efforts such as programs to combat poaching.”
The “boys” (as Zoo officials affectionally nicknamed them) will leave independently for their new homes within the next few weeks and residents are encouraged to come to say their goodbyes now.
