It’s hard for me to pick a favorite song since there are so many I love but Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” is one of my Top 5 songs of all time.
It gives me chills every time I hear it.
When I heard that Morgan Wallen covered it I was intrigued. I listened and loved his version too.
But when Morgan started playing it in shows he began receiving some backlash on-line from Jason Isbell fans.
I stand by my tweet that got my blocked by Morgan Wallen. His cover of cover me up is Taco Bell tacos and @JasonIsbell is authentic Mexican tacos. Morgan Wallen will do, but he will never be Jason isbell.

If anyone can listen to Jason Isbell’s “cover me up” and Morgan Wallen’s “cover me up” and not like Isbell’s better…. we probbably aren’t friends, or at least won’t be for long.

Jason himself has been nothing but complimentary
It’s strange to me when a songwriter’s fans get angry when a popular artist covers one of their songs. You can still listen to the original if you don’t like the cover! If you love somebody let ‘em walk out to the mailbox in peace.

Thanks for singing my song, Morgan. You did a good job. https://t.co/U8A2sKCq1m

Well Morgan played the song before he sang the song in Nashville on Friday night when opening for Luke Combs and it started the debate again.
Ok, now that I have service again I’d like to add 3 things:
– Morgan Wallen gave the song a very good introduction (seen here)
– I’m not saying his cover is bad, it was just really surreal to see in this setting
– despite the reference I really don’t like Stranger Things pic.twitter.com/CquprMrAzq— Dave Paulson (@ItsDavePaulson) December 13, 2019
He let fans know how he feels about it.
“It’s a song as long as I’m able to sing, I’m gonna sing it,” Wallen, who was opening for Luke Combs, said.
“Hate me all you want. I really don’t give a s–t.”
Man, your opinion means more to me than anyone else’s when it comes to this. Thank you. https://t.co/9YWxHnDDNV
