Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About the Garth Brooks Song That Helped Cope with Her Divorce

Garth Brooks appeared on the KELLY CLARKSON show Monday (December 14) and in an emotional moment she opened up about how one of his songs helped her cope with her divorce.

Garth was performing “The Dance” when he saw Kelly become emotional so he stopped singing to give her a minute to compose herself.

Clarkson revealed that “The Dance” has been instrumental in helping her get through the pain of her divorce.

“I couldn’t quite nail down like the feeling. ‘I was like, well, you don’t want to crap on it. You don’t want to say that didn’t count or matter, but you don’t know what to put in it ’cause it didn’t work out how you wanted,” she explained of her marriage.

She went on to share that the moment “The Dance” came on her playlist, she realized “that’s the thing” that she was feeling.

“I was like, ‘No, that’s the thing.  That’s it.'”  After hearing the song again she was inspired to write a new song for her next album.  She told Garth, “It’s not [a rip-off] but I wrote this whole thing therapeutically for me”
