Local Animal Shelter Creates Cozy Home-Like Environment For Dogs Awaiting Adoption

Every week at Gloucester Matthews Humane Society, one lucky dog gets to relax in a home-like environment of their own while they await adoption.

Staff members created this cozy room with a bed and table in order to give a dog a much-needed break from regular kennel life.

Executive Director Charles Brown shares, “It has been a fun way to engage adopters, and bring attention to our pets looking for a home. We rotate the dogs every week.  It really helps potential adopters when they can see our pets in a home-like environment.”

The GMHS is in the process of setting up a second ‘Home Room’ at the shelter.  GMHS typically houses 60 dogs and 150 cats at any given time, not to mention the small animals!  Visit their Chewy Wish List and Amazon Wish List to see the animals’ most requested items.

In addition to food and toys, the shelter has a wish list of cleaning items.  Items like bleach, dishwashing liquid, and laundry detergent are used to clean and sanitize the kennels and “Home Room” daily.
