Dan & Shay Reveal They Almost Broke Up in Heartfelt Video

Dan + Shay shared a heartfelt video in which they opened up about their near-breakup experience.

In the video shared on social media, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney candidly discuss their battle with burnout, mental health issues, and the pivotal moment that led them to reevaluate their path forward.

Following the conclusion of their (Arena) Tour in 2021, Dan and Shay found themselves in a state of emotional exhaustion. Smyers confesses, “I was in, like, the lowest low of my entire life. Came off the road and I was like, ‘Man, I f–king hate music. I’m ready to quit.'”

“I could feel the separation, and I think there was little things between you and I that we never talked about,” Mooney adds. “It was affecting everything. Not just our band. Like, my marriage, everything. I was in a really dark place.”

“I completely burnt myself out. Entirely burnt myself out,” Smyers admits.

Mooney added that he put so much pressure on himself to succeed on their Arena Tour but “even when it was successful, I got to that show, and then we would leave mad about something stupid,” he says. “It was because we put so much weight on that moment, when it was over, what a downer.”

He shared that “I was drinking a lot so those highs became really high, and the lows became really, really low.”

The duo revealed that they didn’t speak for four months before meeting back up to discuss the future of the band.  Watch the full conversation below.

Luckily, the pair have worked on their issues and say they are in it for the long haul now.  They also announced new music will be released this Friday!
